At Our Lady Queen of Martyrs, we believe that the teaching of Physical Education is vital to a child’s development. Being active improves physical and emotional health and wellbeing, Improves strength, balance and coordination, reduces stress, develops resilience, self-confidence and self-esteem, teaches collaboration, communication, togetherness and leadership.
At OLQM, PE is taught by teachers and specialist PE coaches who work with the school through an external provider. Teachers deliver lessons from Real PE which has a unique, child-centred approach that transforms how we teach PE to ensure that we include, challenge and support EVERY child. Real PE is, first and foremost, a philosophy and approach which aims to transform how we teach PE and it supports teachers to make small changes that will have a significant impact on their learners.
We enhance our teaching of PE through a range of educational experiences: such as offering a range of extra-curricular clubs for children to access which change each half term and giving children the opportunity to participate in sporting competitions that run in the local area.
