Gordon Pearce, Basic Skills Quality Mark Programme Assesor said in his report:
This school was one of the first schools in the City of York to be awarded the Quality Mark twenty-one years ago by the current assessor. The school has always had an extremely strong focus on Basic Skills, has always been very good and has just got better and better over the years. Well done, this is a great achievement.
No time is ever wasted and there has never been any hint of complacency. The staff have always worked together as a very effective team under excellent leadership towards continuous improvement. Appropriately high academic standards have been achieved over the years. There is an extremely strong work ethic in the school. It is a very happy and caring environment where all children are valued and appropriately challenged. The Basic Skills continues to have a central role within the context of a creative and stimulating curriculum. The school continues to value the arts and the recent visual art exhibition is of an extremely high standard. This is a super school.
Thank you for a most enjoyable and memorable visit. It was such a privilege to visit all classrooms with the Deputy Headteacher and a member of the governing body to see the talented and dedicated staff teaching Basic Skills. The learning behaviours of the children are excellent. The children take such a pride in their work and learning and show excellent levels of concentration. It was a joy to talk with the children in the classrooms and for them to explain what they were learning. All learning environments are very supportive of teaching and learning in Basic Skills and the progression throughout the age ranges was clear. The progress seen in the sample of English and Mathematics books was impressive. The quality of marking and feedback is of a very high standard.
Congratulations to all staff and children on having the Quality Mark renewed f0r a further three years. Well Done!
Congratulation too to Derek Sutherland (Headteacher) who will take up an appointment with the City of York Local Authority in the Summer Term.
