Mini Vinnies

“To serve those who are poor is to go to God, and you should see God in them.”

St Vincent de Paul

We are proud that we have a Mini Vinnies group at OLQM.  Mini Vinnies are the most junior branch or apostolate of the St Vincent de Paul society and they meet fortnightly to discuss ways in which they can “turn concern into action.”

The Saint Vincent de Paul vision is inspired by Christ’s message to love our neighbour as ourselves and was set up in the 1830’s by Frederic Oznam, a young student and committed Catholic in Paris, who wanted to help others at a time when poverty was rife.

During their meetings (supported by staff and an adult Vincentian co-ordinator) the children gather, pray together, talk about those around them who need our help, and think of ways they can help those people.

The Mini Vinnies are made up of pupils from year 5. The children are keen to take part and make a difference to the lives of others.

They are linked to our Chaplaincy team.

Taking part in Mini Vinnies will support pupils in achieving their Faith in Action Award. This encourages them to shine the light of faith by taking their service into the wider community and accepting greater responsibility for their faith in action for the common good. This is done through building a portfolio of activities that each pupil has taken part in.
