Today, some of the children from Y5 helped the parish of Our Lady's Acomb by lighting the fourth candle on the Advent wreath. This candle represents peace. Members of the Y6 chaplaincy team wrote the following prayer: Dear Lord, Help us to keep peace in our homes, so they will become happy and calm. Help us to bring peace to those who are upset. Help us to show peace to those who need refuge. Help us to appreciate peace that surrounds us. Amen
18 December - Jesse Tree - Y1 St Cecilia heard the Joyful News of the Birth of Jesus, Our Saviour
They heard how the Angels appeared to the shepherds in the fields.
They decided to draw themselves as a choir of angels spreading the Good News to everyone.
17 December - Jesse Tree - Y5 St Nicholas heard the story of the angel appearing to St Joseph in a dream
Y5 St Nicholas reflected on people around us who give us selfless love and keep us safe.
They wrote prayers for guardians, parents, step-parents, carers and our emergency services
16 December - Jesse Tree - Y4 St Anthony heard the story of the Annunciation.
They thought about how Mary's trust in God brought about lots of joy to the world.
They reflected on how they too could bring joy to the world by having kind hands and words
15 December - Jesse Tree - Y5 St Bakhita heard the story of Queen Esther saving the Hebrews who were in exile.
Queen Esther used her position to save the vulnerable, but put herself in danger to do so.
Y5 St Bakhita wrote prayers for the people who live on the edges of society.
14 December - Jesse Tree - Y6 St Paul Miki reflected on the story of Jeremiah
Y6 St Paul Miki learnt that God sends the Holy Spirit to us to augment our gifts.
Like a potter adding clay to a pot, God gives us the qualities to complete his missions.
13 December - The third Sunday in Advent: Gaudete Sunday!
On the third Sunday in Advent, the children from Y3 helped Our Lady's Parish light the third, pink candle on the Advent wreath. Gaudete means 'rejoice'. We rejoice at the joy Mary felt as she carried the baby Jesus in her womb. We rejoice that the birth of Jesus, our Saviour, is getting closer every day!
11 December - Jesse Tree - YR St Peter listened to the story of Daniel
YR St Peter heard how Daniel kept faith with God and God kept Daniel safe from the lions.
They thought about all the people that God gives us to keep us safe.
10 December - Jesse Tree - Y2 St Margaret heard the story of Jonah
Y2 St Margaret learnt how God loves everyone - even our enemies
They reflected on how making friends and reconciling after a fall-out makes us feel good.
09 December - Y3 St Patrick heard the story of Elijah recognising God in the gentle breeze.
Y3 St Patrick learnt that God's gentleness gives us strength to carry on.
They reflected on all the people that God sends us to make us feel better.
08 December - Jesse Tree - Y4 St Hilda - heard the story of the anointing of King David.
Y4 St Hilda learnt how God looks into our hearts not at our appearance.
They reflected on how everyone is capable of carrying out God's plans by doing good works.
07 December - Jesse Tree - Y2 St John the Baptist learnt about how Samuel learnt to listen to God
Y2 St John the Baptist learnt how Samuel helped to spread God's messages of love.
They reflected on the wonderful words of love and hope we hear as we journey to Christmas
06 December - Second Sunday in Advent
On the Second Sunday in Advent, some of our Y6 Chaplaincy Team joined the Parish of Our Lady's in lighting the second candle on the Advent wreath. The prayers, which helped introduce the theme of the Mass, were written by the Chaplaincy Team.
04 December - Jesse Tree - Y6 St Martin learnt about the Hope of New life through the story of Ruth
Ruth discovered that God loves everyone, not just a chosen few.
Y6 St Martin prayed for those who are refugees
3rd December - Jesse Tree - Year 3 learnt about Moses meeting God at the Burning Bush
02 December - Jesse Tree - Abraham Trusts God. God rewards Abraham with as many children as there are stars.
Y1 St Brigid learnt about how Abraham's trust in God was rewarded with many descendants.
They learnt how kind words can be like stars shining in out hearts!
Tuesday 01 December - Jesse Tree - Noah
Our YR St Francis & St Peter Class heard about Noah and the Flood
They learnt about God's Rainbow Promise not to flood the earth again
Monday 30 November 2020 - Jesse Tree - The Creation Story
The children in YN St Joseph explored the Story of Creation.
They thought about all the wonderful animals God made that make our world so exciting!

Today, the First Sunday in Advent, some of our Y5 children helped the Our Lady's parish light the first candle on the Advent wreath. The prayers were written by our Y6 Chaplaincy Team.
First Sunday in Advent
We start our Advent journey today!
We have our Advent wreath ready to light each week.
Our crib is ready and waiting in joyful hope of the arrival of Our Saviour.
Our school family will be 'travelling' to Bethlehem with Mary and Joseph via our Jesse tree,
which will take us on a journey through the Old Testament to the wonderful Nativity story!
