Basic Skills Quality Mark

The Basic Skills Quality Mark is an award that celebrates and supports continuous improvement in literacy and numeracy.

We are proud to have attained the 6th Basic Skills Agency Quality Mark, the highest level a school can achieve. Many thanks to the children and staff who have helped to gain this fantastic achievement.

It is awarded to a setting or school to recognise their provision, practice and performance in literacy and numeracy, and is valid for three years. A school or setting must demonstrate a whole school approach to improving standards in literacy and numeracy, with evidence of the impact of its approaches. It provides a framework for self-evaluation and continuous improvement of the basic skills of all pupils in a school, including those who underachieve and those who under attain.

Below you can see an excerpt from our most recent report:

"One of the key strengths of the school since the last visit has been in the development of reading especially in promoting achievement at greater depth. This has taken place through a variety of initiatives from Action Research into reading for greater depth across several schools, to the development of the classroom environment to include book corners encouraging children to read in every classroom. Investment in new resources including both physical and digital books has also taken place. Staff training on supporting children to achieve key skills of inference and comprehension has supported rapid rates of progress alongside information for parents on how to support reading to greater depth at home."
